MEET SHELLEY
Shelley Henk is an abstract healing portrait artist, writer, registered nurse, and creator of Artful Storywork™.
Her work is devoted to helping women discover healing, meaning, and identity through story, creativity, compassionate witnessing, and Spirit-led transformation.
For more than two decades, Shelley explored the human experience through the lens of healthcare, serving as a registered nurse and Whole Health Educator. Through her work, she became fascinated by the relationship between our stories, our health, our beliefs, and our ability to heal.
Today, she combines her background in nursing, storytelling, abstract art, and Christian spiritual formation to create Healing Portraits™, Finding Beautiful™, and other Artful Storywork™ experiences that help women reconnect with God, themselves, and others.
Shelley believes healing is not about becoming someone new.
It is about remembering who God created us to be.
Artist Statement
At the heart of my work is a deep belief that every life tells a story.
Through abstract painting, I explore the intersection of story, healing, beauty, faith, and transformation. I am drawn to the moments that shape us—the heartaches, thresholds, longings, and awakenings that become part of who we are.
Many of my paintings emerge through Artful Storywork™, a creative process that combines story, reflection, prayer, symbolism, and compassionate witnessing. Rather than painting a person, I seek to paint from within the story they are living.
For me, art is more than self-expression.
It is a way of listening.
A way of paying attention.
A way of partnering with beauty.
I believe art can become an altar—a sacred space where healing, reflection, and transformation unfold.
My hope is that each painting serves as a witness.
A reminder that beauty can still be found, meaning can still emerge, and God is still at work making all things new.
